COPY. Prices' Company Ltd., Battersea, LONDON. S.W. 25th May 1916. Messrs. Rolls-Royce Ltd., Nightingale Road, DERBY. Dear Sirs, ref. Na{Mr Nadin}1/S28416. We regret that in consequence of extreme pressure of work upon our staff lately, arising from serious interruptions to the supply of oil and the necessity for investigating the possibility of finding substitutes for the Ministry of Munitions, as well as for our regular customers, our examination of the sample of Aero Engine Oil which you sent us has been much delayed. You ask us - (a) for our opinion regarding the oil itself, and (b) our ability to provide a substitute. In deference to your usual desire to have particulars of the samples you submit to us, we enclose a copy of our Chemist's report upon your sample, together with corresponding particulars of the two samples which we have prepared as substitutes. In regard to these points - (a) We regard your sample as an excellent oil and well adapted for the lubrication of internal combustion engines. (b) We regard our samples as also well adapted for the same purpose. Of our two samples we prefer "C" as likely to present greater staying power than either "A" or "B", and more particularly as we find, as shown in the following table, that it possesses greater consistency as the temperature rises.
