re PHANTOM WING STAYS.

With reference to Ev{Ivan Evernden - coachwork}2/23.4.27. the set of wing stays supplied to Derby for 12-EX are approximately to the curvature shown on your N. Sch. 2136, as a matter of fact the Experimental Department bent the wing stays to the curvature shown on this scheme, and since packing pieces had to be used it would appear that Barkers had made the wings with inside valance more vertical.

These wings were not modified at Derby, and it would not have been advisable for us to attempt to do this, as a matter of fact if there had been any intention on our part to modify the curvature of these wings we should have sloped the valance similar to Barkers standard in order to give more clearance for the bonnet clips.

It is obvious that Barkers did not supply us with a set of their standard Phantom wings, but supplied them approximately to your N. Scheme.

We have held up production of the R.R. wing stays until we receive your drawing showing the correct curvature.

Whilst dealing with this matter it would certainly seem advisable to arrange the rearmost front wing stay so that it will clear the front axle control damper, as pointed out in our memo BY/Cgh{W Clough}10/G.23.3.27. as we understand that the latter scheme will be standardised in the near future.
