re. PHANTOM WING STAYS.

We apologise for again writing on the subject of the Phantom wing stays.

Referring to BY7/C27427., and dealing with the paras. in turn -

(1) It is stated in this para. that the wing stays were bent by Derby to our N. sch. 2136: if this was so it was not what we intended, or what we instructed, as we definitely state in a note on our N. sch. 2136. the following - "A set of standard wing
"New PhantomCodename for PHANTOM I Front wings is being sent to Derby for EAC.8. for a
"chassis. Derby will please use these to set out the curves of the
"wing stays, and to check the 30" dimension between the lamps."

(2) Had the stays have been bent to suit the wings no packing pieces would have been needed, and the stays would have approximately suited Barkers for -

(3) Barkers must have supplied a set of standard wings because in their CFD/TRR. dated 8/2/26. from Major C.F. Dingwall, they inform us that they had despatched to Derby amongst other things, a pair of long speed aluminium front wings, and a pair of aluminium hind wings. They could not have made these to our N. sch. 2136. because this drawing was not completed until Feb.4. 1926., and was not issued until 6.Feb.1926. Furthermore we have no record of having supplied a print of this drawing to Barkers.

(4) We will send you a drawing shewing the correct curvature as soon as possible.

(5) This drawing will deal with both the forward and aft front wing stays.
