Dear Sirs,

PHANTOM III CHASSIS NO.3-AZ-56
Mrs. A.M.Nicholas, Harcourt St.Auburn.

Mr.Morris Nicholas is having quite a lot of bother with the above car. First the complaint of the floating up and down of the rear of the car, about which we have already been in communication with you. We have improved this to a great extent, but it is still not quite satisfactory.

We have followed the instructions in your letter H8/H5337 5th March 1937, and found that the control pump is not working correctly. We have taken the pump off and cleaned it out as we ll as possible with the control lever over on hard and the rear wheels turning at about 10 m.p.h. The gauge we rigged up to the pump will show about 27-28 lbs. pressure, and on increasing the speed to 40 m.p.h. the pressure will go up to 32-33 lbs. and does not show any more if the engine is run faster still. With the control over on the soft there is no pressure showing at any speed.

Secondly, he is getting a bad front wheel wobble at about 35 m.p.h. and upwards, and over fairly rough roads the steering is kicking badly.

We have tested the car on the road and found that travelling along on the uneven ashhalt alongside tram lines, the car had a very strong inclination to wobble, and on striking a certain sequence of quite small holes, the car got into a wobble twice. The chauffeur states that coming down from their hillsidehome the car gets into a very bad wobble and we know that this road is not too bad.

We took the car along further to a fairly bad stretch of road,
