78310 TO BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} FROM AJS. Copy to - HS.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} AJS4/M14.7.25. 7.EX. GEARBOX. Replying to your BY6/H10725., the feature of having the spherical portion standing above the slider a definite amount, was originated as it was thought that the "catchiness" of the change speed mechanism in some cases was due to the plunger having been in relation to its slider somewhat, thus - and with a view to eliminating this we asked for the feature mentioned above. We are not entirely in agreement with the 3rd. para. of your memo. as the radius of spherical portion can vary, thus - and so be made to alter the locking angle without alteration to 'X'. In any case we consider the amount of .050 for 'X' as suggested in your memo. to be ample, and would consider that an absolute minimum of .030 would be sufficient. AJS. | ||
