To ROY.{Sir Henry Royce} from E/Lid.{A. J. Lidsey} C. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} E/Lid.{A. J. Lidsey}1/HP.26.7.34. Petroflex Pipes. With reference to ROY{Sir Henry Royce}/Ms.8/P.25.7.34, we do not consider that you should purchase our future requirements of flexible petrol pipes either from the Gabriel Manufacturing Co. or Benton and Stone until we have carried out extensive tests on the samples submitted. The construction of these all metal flexible petrol pipes is entirely different from the Petroflex pipes which we use at the moment on the Bentley; although the makers state that the all metal flexible petrol pipes have been tested successfully up to enormous pressures without leakage, we do not think this accounts for very much, as high pressure in flexible metal pipe of this construction tends to seal up any weak place where leakage might occur; for our purpose there is of course no pressure inside the pipe.
