REPORT ON HYDRAULIC DAMPERS. 1/6/33

The dampers have been fitted up as follows by W. Bell
NEAR SIDE FRONT New asbestos impregnated gland with tallow
OFF SIDE FRONT New asbestos gland impregnated with tallow.
NEAR SIDE REAR New asbestos gland impregnated with tallow
OFF SIDE REAR Not altered, fitted up with vent, and wedged shaped bronze washer gland packing impregnated with tallow. Has previously run 250 miles with no sign of leak.

The level of oil is 20 cc. less in the three dampers (ie. N.S.F., O.S.F., N.S.R.) than what we have previously filled up to.

RESULT AFTER 540 MILES 2/6/33

Morning's run
Both front dampers no leak.
Near side rear slight weep.
Off side rear no leak.

Afternoon's run
Both front slight weep, same as before new packing was fitted
N.S.F. lost 5 cc.
O.S.F. not measurable.
NEAR SIDE REAR leak, lost 18 cc.
Off Side Rear no sign of leak from gland, but a slight leak developed from plug, where it has been drilled for conduit. The 2nd scheme we fitted is still a 100% job.

All dampers have been checked & topped up with oil after the day's run.

RESULT OF SECOND DAY'S MILEAGE OF 533 3/6/33

Near Side Front gland leaks, but amount not measurable
Off Side Front gland leaks, but amount not measurable.
