- 2 - ALTERATIONS TO DAMPERS 3/6/33 NEAR SIDE FRONT New damper with vee shaped bronze washer and asbestos gland impregnated with tallow OFF SIDE FRONT Not altered NEAR SIDE REAR Fitted with vent and wedged shaped bronze washer, leading edge filed back one tenth gland packing impregnated with tallow as used on front dampers. OFF SIDE REAR Not altered, fitted up with vent and wedge! shape bronze washer gland packing impregnated with tallow. Has run 1303 Miles. RESULT OF ALTERATIONS ( 3rd & 4th days) mileage 650 4/6/33 - 5/6/33 N.S.F. Slight weep from gland not measurable. O.S.F. Slight weep from gland not measurable. N.S.R. Gland leaked, lost 6oz, taken down and examined; poor packing O.S.R. No leak. Has run 1953 miles. All dampers have been checked & topped up with oil after the day's run. ALTERATIONS TO DAMPERS. 5/6/33. NEAR SIDE FRONT Not altered ( Vee shaped bronze washer) OFF SIDE FRONT Gland fitted with new packing (asbestos & tallow) large capacity cover fitted. NEAR SIDE REAR Gland repacked with asbestos and tallow, thinner rope being used. Bronze Washer as previous. Still retains air vent. OFF SIDE REAR Vent hole stopped up to see whether this would make it leak. All dampers had the leak holes in the valves stopped up and fitted with .025 washer for the rear and .020 for the front to give a leak past the seatings. | ||
