EXPERIMENTAL REPORT.
-4- Expl. No. REF: W1C2/BR 24.7.25.

Rear springs.
Front shackle pin worn in spring eyes.
Rear " " " " "
Brake equalisers O.K.

Dashboard and dashbrackets. Condition O.K.

Steering column. Condition O.K.

Rear axle.
The general condition of the rear axle was found to be very good. A broken bolt was found in bevel pinion thrust on the race which takes the forward thrust. Hoffmann No.145 ball race which carries the [smudged] diff. box has worn badly which makes it noisy. Differential boxes and fitts. O.K.

Brake gear.
Ferodo shoes, bearings and operating mechanism in good condition. Brake drums worn slightly.

Front axle.
Condition generally good. Pivot pin and bearings show signs of want of lubrication, and it appears as though grease was being used instead of oil. The bottom pivot bush Ea/FC was in good condition. There being a max. clearance of .0035. These bushes were damaged, getting them off owing to the pivots. There was no means of withdrawing. Next time front axle is assembled we are arranging to fit a pivot pin with a flange on for the purpose of withdrawing bush when the pin is assembled. Brake actuating shaft bearings had worn.

O.S. outer bearing worn .007
inner " .006

N.S. outer bearing worn .009
inner " .007.

Axle appears to have twisted slightly. There is an inaccuracy in the timing of the two bores of .015. The pivots are O.K. O.S. serrations on the pivot which takes the cross steering lever has worn due to the lever being loose. We believe what happened is that the lever has been taken down and put up again with some dirt between the faces, consequently it has fidgetted and worn the serrations.

The latest Dunlop wheels are used in the modified locking device which gives two rows of serrations. There is a greater tendency for the water to get in the hubs with this scheme. Two hubs in particular were very rusty. contd :-
