Rolls Royce Limited, Derby. For the Attention of Mr. Grylls. Dear Mr. Grylls, We have now made up a steering gear similar in size to the one which we propose to supply to you with a cam giving a gear reduction of 11 to 1, and we have pleasure in enclosing a blue print giving the efficiency curve of this gear, in respect of the shock transmitted to the steering wheel from the road. We have added another curve showing the efficiency of our standard ratio for this size of gear. We propose to make up a sample gear for you with the 11 : 1 ratio so that you will be able to make direct comparison between this and the gear which you are now using. We should also like to make up an additional gear with the 14 : 1 ratio cam which we feel would be an improvement, and fit it to a 20 h.p. Rolls Royce Car belonging to one of the Directors of the Bishop Transmission Company. We could then bring this up to you and you could make a comparison between the two ratios, and if the suggestion meets with your approval we should be very pleased to do this. | ||
