Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} Derby.

Paris.
HK{Col. T. Harker - Sales}8/Dn/AW6.1.25.

With reference to Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}2/LGL.1.25., I beg to give you the following information respecting the formalities necessary for the despatch of a car to France under a Touring Acquit :-

1º - The car to be sent via Boulogne where the General Transport Company are on very good terms with the Customs who reduce the formalities to a minimum.

2º - The General Transport Company will fill up the application form for a Touring Acquit as soon as we give them chassis number, engine number, type of body, etc., owner's name and address.

3º - We will apply to the Prefecture de Police here for the Grey Card and send this to you as soon as received so that it may accompany the car and everything be in order on arrival at Boulogne. The car could be sent to the British Port under your Trade numbers and the French numbers substituted at Boulogne, thus enabling the car to continue its journey across France without coming to Paris.

4º - The driver of the car must have an International Driving License.

5º - A Banker's Guarantee of 65% of the value of the car would have to be transmitted to the General Transport Company who require this to be shown to the Custom Authorities before being able to obtain the Touring Acquit, which they assure us can be obtained very rapidly.

We can attend to the question of obtaining and sending to the General Transport Company the Banker's Gurantee as soon as we XXXX are informed by you of the value of the car

I think the foregoing will give you a clear picture of the situation, and I shall be obliged to you for informing me what you decide to do, and giving me all the particulars should you decide to adopt the scheme proposed.

For your guidance, the French Registration numbers will be on the Grey Card, and the car will naturally pay French taxes.

Should a car pay duty in France, it is merely presented to the customs official, who makes out the receipt on which figures the chassis and engine numbers. This is always attended to for us by the General Transport Company.
