BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} from Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} X4244 Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}4/LG20.9.21. GOSHAWK 11. FLYWHEEL & CLUTCH. X 424H The last instruction I heard from Mr. Royce on this matter was that the flywheel should be made from a forging. This was decided upon after he had seen the flywheel on the first experimental chassis which Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} and myself took to W.W. The cast iron casting for the flywheel on that engine was not a good job and R.{Sir Henry Royce} decided that considering the extra expense of balancing the cast iron and fitting on the geared ring, it might be more economical and safer to have a forged flywheel. Our opinion is, that unless there is some definite saving in cost, with the cast iron, we should prefer the forging. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} | ||
