contd :- -7- oil pump, ignition distributor water pump and dynamo (these from one sprocket) and also a transfer sprocket which carries the fan and a second sprocket on which the second driving chain runs to drive the camshaft. The chains are of generous dimensions, the lower being 1.50" wide and the upper 1.250" wide, and both .312" pitch. The transfer and fan sprocket is driven at 5/6 times crankshaft speed, and the accessory sprocket and camshaft at 1/2 crankshaft speed. The three driven sprockets all rotate in the same direction as the crankshaft. Both chains are kept at the correct tension by means of two automatic adjustment sprockets, one for each chain. These consist of an idling sprocket, running in the opposite direction to the crankshaft, mounted on an eccentric bush and fitted with a ribbon coil spring which maintains a constant tension on the chain. ENGINE LUBRICATION. Engine lubrication is of the conventional pressure feed system. The oil pump is driven at half engine speed from the accessory drive, and is mounted at the bottom crankcase flange above the engine sump oil level. Oil is delivered to the main bearing gallery, from thence to the big end bearings, up the drilled conn. rods to the gudgeon pins; the main gallery is tapped at the front end to feed the accessory drive, transfer sprocket bearing sprockets, idler and camshaft. The oil is fed through the hollow camshaft to all the camshaft bearings and valve caps; the oil from the valves and camshaft bearings drains into the oil drain channel shewn in fig.1, and is carried back to he sump. From the rear camshaft bearing the surplus oil is taken to a Wall Oil Rectifier and also to a spring loaded valve unit which contd :- | ||
