Dear Mr. Devereux,

There was a conference on Friday afternoon, May 13th, between our representatives and Mr. Robotham, Mr. Matthews, Mr. Hindle, and Mr. Wheeler on the subject of the R.R. A.C. bearing metal, which was really further to our conference which was held at the Rolls-Royce works when you and I and the Rolls-Royce Chief Chemist were present.

At that meeting at Rolls-Royce it was decided that we should go ahead with A.C.6 and a number of castings were made and submitted to your goodselves and also to Messrs. Rolls-Royce for approval before these should be machined and sent out. At the later conference, however, it has been decided by Messrs. Rolls' representatives that we ought not to go on with the A.C.6 owing to certain troubles of segregation due to the antimony content, and it is now proposed that further experiments shall be carried on with A.C.9.

It has been arranged that we shall return to your goodselves such A.C.6 material as we have, and that you will replace it with A.C.9

The point is rather an important one for this reason: we have made considerable progress with various manufacturers who are anxious to try out this metal, and there is quite a possibility if there is a good deal of delay, that we may entirely 'miss the boat.' As you know, there is at present rather tendency for change of design of bearing from the roller bearing to the steel backed bearing, and it would have been very helpful if we had been in a position to put forward samples now rather than have these delayed.

I merely mention this to you because there may be some question at a later date as to what has caused the delay in
