Leonard Esq. ------------------------ The above owner 'phoned here this morning and complained bitterly of recurrent over-oiling and excessive oil consumption. He stated that the car had been sent back at great inconvenience to himself, no fewer than eight times, and I have confirmed this from our records. At 623 miles, on December 1st 1936, we cleaned the sparking plugs which were oiled up. At 1,254 miles, 10.12.36, sparking plugs again cleaned. At 1,540 miles, 14.12.36, sparking plugs cleaned. All of the above were short visits. At 2,560 miles, 4.1.37, we sent the car to Derby on customer's behalf, for the same trouble. We do not know exactly when car was re-delivered by W to owner, but we understand that he made a further complaint, and Mr. Trayner came down from W to owner's house and fitted special sparking plugs. The car came back to us 19.1.37, mileage 1,271 (the speedometer had in the meantime been changed) with a further complaint of oiled up sparking plugs which we verified, and the plugs were cleaned while the customer waited. At a mileage of 2,632, 11.2.37, the car was brought here because the owner was going away for two weeks' holiday in Suffolk, without the chauffeur. The sparking plugs were again badly oiled up on cylinders 4, 5 and 6 on the B bank. We had no time allowed to do anything more than again clean the plugs.
