Rear Axle LOP.G.83089. N.S.4767. 8 x 34 Ratio Gears.

The general condition of this unit was good.

The backlash in Crown Wheel and Pinion was .025 (Gears were fitted in Paris and have no record of original setting).

G.85319 Driving Flange (to suit Hardy Spicer Propeller Shaft) had been rubbing in the bore of G.83825 Pinion Housing Cover; we suggest the annular clearance be increased from .006 to .010.

G.84710 Pinion and Driving Flange were a good fit on the raper and the keys were in good condition. Both pieces were crack tested and found satisfactory.

Ex.27870 Oil Retainer (hardened) was in good condition.

The special Perfect Oil Seals No. 225114 were not a success; large quantities of oil had passed down the Axle Tube.

G.84483 Centre Casing was in satisfactory condition and free from cracks.

G.85174/5 Diff. Boxes had fidgetted slightly on the joint faces; the parts were crack tested and found satisfactory.

G.84693 Bushes in Diff. Pinions had moved outwards .030; this is a common feature and is not detrimental.

G.85172/3 Axle Driving Shafts were in good condition; they were checked for axial twist and found O.K.

continued.
