S/W. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}..from PN.{Mr Northey} Copy to Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} 84117 PN.{Mr Northey}11/WT22.9.31. Cholmondeley. 25 H.P. Chassis GFT-43. I have heard from Lord Cholmondeley again who sends a cutting from the "Motor" in which an account of the Packard is given, with special reference to the Lovejoy adjustable shock-absorbers, and asking whether :- 1. We consider these reliable and effective. 2. Whether we would be willing to fit them if No. 1. is satisfactory. There is no doubt of course that this owner will require his car, as with his Bugatti, to be fully damped for speed-work on bad roads, and to be lightly damped for town-work, a condition which is fully dealt with on his other car by having Hartford adjustable dampers. It would appear that we never have fitted Hartfords, double or adjustable, dampers to the front of the 25 H.P. and to do so would entail a lot of fresh design, particulars of which, together with the cost, I am waiting to hear from W. Meanwhile, the position is a trifle ragged. I can conclude that there will be no difficulty in fitting single Hartfords over each wheel, and that the variation of damping could be easily effected by a spanner-adjustment. Do you think this would be the best alternative, if nothing else satisfactory can be done ? PN.{Mr Northey} [Stamp] RECEIVED H 23 SEP 1931 | ||
