Mrs. Maiden.
Referring to your M49/N19.9.31, I feel very much surprised and disturbed to realise from your memo that there appears to be so great a difference between the present standard tyre and the previous silent or cross-section type, to the extent that it is possible for an owner to be justified in describing her car as noisy with the former, whilst you apparently take the view that with the previous tread such a description would not be justified.
My memory in respect of the present type of silent tyre, and the impression I have formed as to the relative silence of it and the previous silent tread, was that there was very little difference. This point is also referred to and confirmed by M73/N19.9.31.
I am not clear whether in this last memo referred to, "the groan period" refers to tyre sounds pure and simple, or to noises set up in the body resulting from the tyre tread period.
I should be glad to have further remarks on these points, because the position is wholly unsatisfactory, if we have to take the view that our 25 H.P. as supplied to-day, is a noisy car because of the tyres.
I will also write you further on Mrs. Maiden's car when I have had an opportunity of testing this.
FH.
