8417 S/W...Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} Whr{Mr Wheeler}/GST{G. S. Townsend}1/M2.6.32. Re. Chassis 208-AMS. Gowen. You will probably recollect this gentleman having already been introduced to you by Messrs. Southern and Olly about twelve months ago on the occasion of his purchasing his last R.R. 117-GN. He has now bought from us chassis 208-AMS of which he has recently taken delivery. Mr. Gowen is of the opinion that his new car is a beautiful one, with its many personal refinements, but there is one thing he is not satisfied with and that is the springing. In addition to the R.R. hydraulic shock absorbers, he has had fitted Hartford shock absorbers controlled from the dash, and he complains that the riding of his Packard is very much superior to his R.R. There may be many points as to why this should be and in our opinion one of the contributory causes may be the special American tyres - Road Masters - which he has fitted. We asked him the pressure on these tyres and he told us that they were running at about 55. We pointed out to him that our demonstration cars were run as low as 30 but he did not seem to attach much importance to our statement. However, the fact remains that he is dissatisfied and as he is on his way to Scotland, he will be calling on you between 9 and 10 a.m. on Monday next. He is staying overnight at the Midland Hotel for the purpose of this visit and we trust that you can conveniently arrange to see him personally and put him right. Whr{Mr Wheeler}/GST.{G. S.
