COMBINED LUGGAGE GRID AND WHEEL CARRIER.

Referring to Sg{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD}2/M.23.2.27. we note your surprise in regard to the cost quoted for the luggage grid, both for the one to be displaced and the new one to replace same.

The facts of the case are, of course, that the prices do not represent the cost of the luggage grid as such. Our Cost Dept., in dealing with any modification, treat any section involved as a part of the problem, and give us a complete price covering all sections affected. In this case the sections affected were:-

1. Petrol Tank, owing to the nameplate being modified.
2. Luggage grid.
3. Spare wheel carrier incorporated.
4. Increased cost of new frame extension brackets and cross tube called for by the new scheme.

We did not see the figures before they were despatched, as they were added to BJ's copy and sent off by the Cost Dept. or we should have pointed out that it was necessary to break up the figures under the various headings above, in order to make clear precisely how and where the increase took place.

We have already, owing to having seen a memo from LHS{Lord Herbert Scott}, taken up this matter with the Cost Dept. and anticipate getting the figures in such a form as to make the proposed change intelligible to everybody concerned. At the moment we agree it is not.
