Dear Sirs,

Your reference....Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Wst.4/AD.

We thank you for your letter of the 19th instant.,addressed for the Attention of Mr. Thacker, with further reference to the discussions Mr. Cunningham had with you at your works recently in connection with the sample Alto pattern Electric Horn and the new Dual Arm Rack pattern Screen Wiper that you had on the 10,000 mile test car.

We have returned the Alto Horn and also the two of the Altette pattern that Mr.Cunningham brought back. These have been marked for Mr.West's attention and we trust they have by now safely come to hand.

As regards the Alto Horn as you know the piston was cracked across the diameter and the diaphragm was also broken. Our Laboratory have carefully examined the Horn and report on it as follows :-

"Piston fracture is extremely rare and in this instance was probably due to undue stresses imposed during the rivetting up of the centre clamping. Only one other such instance has ever been known. .

The diaphragm fracture is the result of a poor outer diaphragm clamping surface, and this trouble was removed some time ago by the fitting of Empire cloth washers on each side of the diaphragm."
