Messrs.Rolls-Royce,Ltd., Derby. Dear Sirs, For the attention of Mr.A.J.Lidsey. With reference to the D.W.S.Permanent Jacks fitted to the Rolls-Royce car at your works recently. We have now had an opportunity of carrying out a complete test of a set of Jacks fitted to a Phantom ll Rolls-Royce, exactly the same as the one under discussion at Derby. The test was carried out with a single Jack mounted centrally on the axle, the Jacks being fitted in an identical manner with the control shaft on the near side. To impose the most drastic test on the Jack which is possible to occur, both front tyres were completely deflated, a contingency which would be a rare occurrence in the ordinary way. We found the handle engaged with the shaft easily and with plenty of clearance and that the entire front portion of the car was lifted from this position easily and without undue effort, and at the termination of the Jack lift a clearance of 1.1/2" was measured between the ground and a fully inflated tyre. The test was witnessed by members of the staff of Messrs.Barkers,Coachbuilders, who expressed their astonishment at the ease with which the single Jack handled so great a load. Continued. | ||
