Copy of letter received from:- Messrs. North & Sons Ltd., Whippendell Road, WATFORD. Ref. Wd{Mr Wood/Mr Whitehead}10/NJ21227. CHK/HC.9. 22nd March, 1927. Messrs. Rolls Royce Limited, DERBY. Dear Sirs, In further reply to your letter of February 21st we beg to say that we sent you by passenger train on the 16th inst, under our Invoice No. 143098 and packing note No. 233400, four magnetos with enclosed armature tunnels, similar to that of magneto No. 94201. These magnetos are all fitted with bakelite pinions and aluminium wheels and we would suggest that after you have tested these magnetos with the aluminium wheels you might return one or two of them to have bakelite wheels fitted, when you would be able to compare the effect of the altered armature tunnels as compared with the standard ones and that of the bakelite wheels in comparison with aluminium wheels in machines which you have already heard running previous to the modification. We have made repeated modifications with regard to the fittings in order to make these machines as quiet as possible, while giving the necessary freedom of movement as tested by weights on the control lever, and have spent much time in adjusting and testing in order to obtain the most satisfactory results. Whether the magnetos when finished are quieter than the average of your standard magnetos we leave for your consideration and shall be pleased to hear your views after you have made comparative tests. Yours faithfully, FOR NORTH & SONS LTD., C.H. Kirby. | ||
