Oil sludge issues in the Phantom III chassis and comparing the performance of different engine oils.

On the above type chassis we have experienced a certain amount of trouble with the oil feed to the rocker mechanism, due to the filter through which all the oil has to pass to the hydraulic tappets, very quickly making up with a form of "sludge". It is interesting to note that on the five cars on which we have experienced this trouble have all been run on Prices Motorine 'C'. I was able to get hold of Lord Portarlington's car which has just run over 5000 miles on Wakefield's Castrol Oil, and this filter was reasonably clean, and would have run at least 5000 miles before it required cleaning.
