1225 W/S. G.{Mr Griffiths - Chief Accountant / Mr Gnapp} from Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} c. to Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} c. to E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} c. to By.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}6/R.9.11.36. re: PRICES OIL - PHANTOM III. Replying to C.13/C4.11.36., the answer to the last paragraph of this note is that the foundation for condemning Prices oil was that it gave trouble in customers' hands. Attached is a copy of a note received from Archer, which was the main reason for the recommendation. Since this note, we have altered neither the car nor the oil. We cannot, therefore, see that there is any justification for raising the temporary embargo on Motorine 'C'. We have had further trouble, due to Motorine 'C' on one of our experimental cars. The main filter became choked and collapsed. This is a very serious trouble, because it might have caused all the bearings to run short of oil. We have sent to Prices a filter covered with sludge, and they have acknowledged it, but so far have made no suggestions as to how the trouble can be rectified.
