COPY. [Stamped]: X4118 [Handwritten, crossed out]: SJ2/H13.126 [Stamped]: X8770 20 HP. CHASSIS COMPLAINTS. [Handwritten in box]: X4118 (1) STEERING: joggles, road shocks etc. (? high speed wobbles), low speed wobbles. [Handwritten note]: Low geared steering should overcome these two. Loss of control of steering when front brakes too effective, or brakes too suddenly applied when steering. Tendency to wander (see CWB2/LH {Mr Haworth} 6.10.25). [Handwritten note]: Too much front-braking, 20 HP front-braking appears to be proportionally more than Phantom? Experience gained on 40/50 HP. is to be applied to this car. Steering control rattle. This is a feature which is appreciated, and always has been considered by the Experimental and Design Departments. More front shock absorber load requested (refer CWB's complaint on 10,000 miles test, 9-G-3). Amount of wear on steering nut. (Customer's complaint when car returned to Works for attention). [Handwritten note pointing to 'wear on steering nut']: Low geared steering (2) BRAKES: squeaking front brakes (See CWB2/LH {Mr Haworth} 6.10.25). See also Point No. 11, New PhantomCodename for PHANTOM I Chassis. [Handwritten note]: Dirt? Experimental Dept. have matter in hand. [Handwritten note]: Dirt? Jaggering trouble from this brake has also been raised. The Experimental Dept. also have this in hand and are being pushed to standardise a modification which overcomes this trouble. (3) PISTON SQUAWKS. (CWB2/LH {Mr Haworth} 6.10.25). It is understood that CWB. is making a special observation to note whether a new car suffering from this trouble develops satisfactory with running. (4) PETROL SYSTEM. (Also refer to No. 24 of New PhantomCodename for PHANTOM I Points). Autovac (See also No. 22 New PhantomCodename for PHANTOM I Points). Petrol filler cap (See also No. 42 New PhantomCodename for PHANTOM I Points re Oil filler cap). The same remarks apply to the oil filler cap on this car. (5) PERFORMANCE. Similar remarks apply as No. 10 of New PhantomCodename for PHANTOM I Points. [Handwritten note]: We agree with these remarks especially re over-loading, as an example Barkers Trials car weight. 35 3/4 cwt. E.F.C. Our experience has generally been that faulty adjustments have been made since the car left the Works, the engine is in bad condition and not had proper attention, the chassis has been over-loaded, or the customer expects too much and makes comparisons with cars which are considerably lighter, etc. (6) BATTERY IGNITION, make and break points burning. (Refer CWB2/LH {Mr Haworth} 6.10.25). Experimental Dept. have this matter in hand. | ||
