To BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer}) from DA{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}/EV.{Ivan Evernden - coachwork} BS.{A J. Barnes - Assistant Manager}} Copy to SG.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} X7535 DA{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}/EV{Ivan Evernden - coachwork}1/M9.9.27. PHANTOM BATTERY IN THE FRAME. X.7535. The Sales conference has enquired of us what progress has been made with the R-R design of battery in the frame. It is pointed out that everyone now wants the battery in the frame, and the coachbuilders efforts are not satisfactory. We know R.{Sir Henry Royce} is keen on the scheme as it moves the weight further aft and gives improved riding. Would Derby please say what can be done to speed up the introduction of this feature. As far as we can see the cost of the simple sheet steel box when in production should not exceed that of the handmade teak box which we now have to supply.
