Speed trials, and the Sluggard Car. Contd.

be to run 100 miles in one hour, as by so doing we should obtain the World's record for one hour, 100 miles and 50 miles.

Mr Johnson had replied to Mr Platford informing him that he could proceed with the proposed alterations.

Mr Platford said he would like to reduce the radiator in width so that the widest part of the car would be at the driver's seat.

Mr Nadin suggested that we used a 30 h.p. radiator.

The alterations proposed were -

1. Steering column to be swivelled from the box so as to bring the hand wheel to about the middle of the car.
2. Side levers to be brought inward.
3. Rear brake brackets to be lightened as far as possible.
4. Wire Wheels 935 x 135.
5. Rear brake shoes removed, and all gear in connection with these brakes.
6. Carburetter inlet to be brought up and to end in a funnel at the back of the radiator in order that the air coming through the radiator may be forced through the carburetter into the engine, thus giving a sort of pressure feed to the mixture.
7. Exhaust pipe to be carried backward and brought up to coincide with the tail of the body. At this point of the body there is a slight vacuum which will assist in scavenging the engine.
