policy of creating records with a car that was standard in every respect, they believe that the best line of action would be for a car to be specially designed for speed purposes, and that we should not attempt a purely speed trial with a standard chassis with merely minor alterations.

Nov. 15th.11.

Mr Platford informed the Committee that he had written to Mr Johnson asking if he might make alterations to the car for speed trial purposes, i.e. the steering wheel, re-construct the body of the car, alter the radiator etc, and the cost, it was proposed, should not exceed £40.

The Committee suggested that this matter should be considered after Mr Johnson's reply had been received.

Re Sluggard Car.

Mr Platford informed the Committee that he had written to Mr Johnson asking if he could go ahead with further reduction of windage etc. on the car (which would mean alteration of chassis) so as to get still higher speeds, which he considered was essential to make a really good show, - the sum of £40 was mentioned as a rough idea of the cost of the proposed work.
