(5) Speed trials, and the Sluggard car. Contd. The Committee agreed that these alterations should be pressed forward because they bear Mr Johnson's sanction, but they wish to again place on record the fact that they do not consider that the policy of the Company is being served by attempting speed records with a standard chassis modified for racing purposes, as stated previously in 74th minutes. Mr Johnson in memorandum CJ7/D221111 reminded the Committee that Mr Royce was in favour of making the best possible speed record and gave notes for the design of a body specially for this purpose; also that the records we are now going for are speed plus reliability. Mr Johnson thought the test was necessary in order to prove that in addition to their reliability etc. the Rolls-Royce could go. X788 82nd Meeting Nov. 22.11. Re Governor shaft for Sluggard Car E.2162. This drawing showed a modification of our standard arrangement without the distributer.
