engine and inverted springs over the axle. The delay caused by this procedure would be the minimum. Mr. Spinney was advised that this scheme should be pushed forward, if necessary, at the expense of the "Sluggard" car.

Mr. Wormald reported that he had a worm axle running on the test rig, and although practically noiseless, he could not give any information concerning efficiency or general suitability.

It was suggested that this worm axle should be rigged up roughly on a chassis in such a way as to enable it to be run on the dynamometer and that Messrs. Wormald and Platford and Bailey should personally superintend this matter.

Re Axles.

The Committee agreed that Mr. Platford should test the worm axle under light road conditions about 25 miles per hour. This is in order that the axle shall not be spoilt by heavy running, for which it has been proved inefficient. Mr. Bailey informed the Committee that this design of worm drive should transmit 35 h.p. The Committee agreed that tests should be run with oil dag, when compared with out" ordinary lubrication in the worm axle. The
