"Sheffield Simplex" had removed the distributor from the magneto, and had fitted same to the front of the camshaft. This was to some extent a reasonable arrangement, in as much that great care was taken with engine gears and they could quite well be made to do the work required for the distributor without adding a second set of gears for this particular work.

Mr Platford pointed out to the Committee that he had pointed out to the manager of the Bosch Co. the advantage of fitting a brake to the distributor shaft, but they had evidently decided not to use such a device.

Mr Barrington suggested that perhaps it would be worth while considering the question of manufacturing the gears ourselves, in order to overcome the difficulty.

The Committee agreed that this was inadvisable.

Mr Wadin suggested the use of two sets of gears, one of the correct ratio, and one of a slightly different ratio, and attached to the first gears by a friction device. This would cause the gears to be kept continally in contact with one side of the tooth only, and would probably be antisfactory.

Messrs Bailey and Barrington suggested as an alternative, that only one pair of gears should be used, but one of these
