[Handwritten] Hoc. [Handwritten] 6/B Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}4/MH.{M. Huckerby} 16th. March, 1940. C.W.Nichols, Esq., Messrs. S.Smith & Sons, Ltd., Cricklewood works, LONDON, N.W.2. Dear Nichols, I have been going into the question of instruments seriously since my visit to you last weekend. I am conscious of the fact that we have not given you much lead as to what we actually require in the way of instrument layout. The procedure so far has been to ask you to submit various types of instruments. We are now attacking the problem from a different angle. We are going to layout our instrument board assuming that there are no limitations in the shape or size of the instrument face, but allowing for the limitations in body size. We hope to do this for the expensive Bentley and Rolls-Royce, and also for the less expensive model. When we have finished these layouts we shall come down and discuss them with you. If you could let us have pictures of the various types of instruments that you have produced for other people it might give us some ideas. Yours sincerely, | ||
