| -2- (2. Cont'd). On examining the body we notice that its crossmembers had not yet been fixed and it was thought that this change could be effected without delay of a material kind. The sizes of these crossmembers are shewn on our drawing. In any case they must not be increased in a way that would cause them to foul the chassis. (3) We also left with you PD.272 which shews the clearance over the rear axle and the propeller shaft, which will be used on this car, as well as the access to the petrol pump. It will be noticed in the plan view that the ramp at the back of the rear cushion is stepped rearwards as soon as it is clear of the frame, and the frame cross, in order to get springs in the centre of the rear cushion as far back as is possible. There is the danger that this cushion may become weak at the back, and every effort should be made to keep this ramp in the most rearward position as drawn. The rear floor consists of a central tunnel carried between the rear squab board and the body crossmember, over the centre of the frame cross. The floor each side consists of one laminated plywood and balso wood board, the one over the petrol pump being made detachable. These boards slope up over the body runner to the central tunnel in a manner now to be seen on the Cadillac 60 Special, so that when the carpet is laid, the central tunnel is not perceptible. (4). We discussed the fitting of Mead McClean window ventilators, and it was agreed that they should be fitted in the position ½" set back, recommended by Mr.Dodd, and that their fixing should be built into the door. It was also agreed that we should continue to work with Messrs.Mead McClean on the matter of providing suitable ventilators for the rear doors. Cont'd.... | ||
