COPY. X7535P BY/Ch12/G.30.8.27. 30th. August 1927. Messrs. Peto & Radford, 50 Grosvenor Gardens, London. S.W.1. Dear Sirs, We are in receipt of your letter of the 23rd. inst. (ref.W/5) in connection with the two 6-volt batteries which you have supplied to us recently, but if the width of the cells are in accordance with the dimensions given on your drawing No. A.1735 then we do not agree that the thickness of the wooden box would be 3/16". We make out that this dimension is 1/4", but in any case we consider that we should have been informed that you could not comply with the requirements given on our detail drawing sent to you instead of supplying us with batteries which do not comply with our requirements without any information whatever. The maximum width of battery box which we are able to fix in the chassis frame is limited by the space available between the inside of the chassis frame and the torque tube. The width specified on our detail drawing represents the maximum which we can allow in order to provide sufficient clearance from the torque tube. Owing to the fact that we were not informed that you were supplying us with experimental batteries wider than what we specified, the sheet metal box which we have made cannot be used for our experiments, and a new one will have to be made. In addition to this there will always be the possibility of the wider battery being fouled by the torque tube, and damage being done during our experimental running. However, we are making a new experimental battery box to accommodate the cells for the two batteries you have supplied, but we hope you will inform us when you are unable to comply with the requirements specified on our drawings in order to avoid a similar occurrence in future. Yours faithfully, TECHNICAL PRODUCTION ENGINEER FOR ROLLS ROYCE LIMITED. HWS | ||
