- 14 - undertook to look into this question. (10) Design Department undertook to investigate the question of reducing the oil feed to the valve gear in order to avoid over oiling. (11) Larger water pump is required with a Packless type of gland. Design for this is in hand. (12) Lightened crankshaft. Design available. (13) Carburetter designs are in hand for double down draught carburetters to be fitted to existing cylinder head. It was doubtful whether this would be ready for the next chassis. It should therefore be fitted with the present standard SpectreCodename for Phantom III carburetters. The accessibility of the inside ignition plugs should be improved with the fitting of the new double down draught carburetter. This point is to be carefully watched by the Design Department. be (14) Compression Ratio. This is to/the same as the first engine, namely 6:1. (15) Clutch. Design Department agreed to check over the designs of the single plate clutch and bring it up-to-date as regards overhang etc. It was agreed that both the single and the double plate clutches should go ahead and be tested alternatively. (16) Engine Mounting. It was agreed that the alternative type of engine mounting should be tried against the present type. (17) It was agreed that the new SpectreCodename for Phantom III gearbox should be fitted to this next chassis. (18) Ground Clearance. Considerable discussion ensued on this point and it was agreed that it was essential to increase the present ground clearance. As the first step it was agreed to use larger wheels. Hm.{Capt. W. Hallam - Head Repairs} promised to write to Dunlops to see if we could obtain some wheels 18" x 7½". This size does not appear on Dunlop's standard list but it was thought that they would produce them for us. Ground clearance | ||
