RE WATER CONNECTIONS.

I have sent to Mr Bailey under separate cover drawing No.Lec592, showing how the outlet and inlet water fittings on the aero cylinders on the "Hawk" engine, and the other fittings should be modified to do away with the screwed union joint.

We have welded on a piece of weldless tube of a steel as similar as possible to the steel used for the water jacket. We do not think it necessary to use rustless steel at the moment, and we think the similar steels will do more to promote a good welded joint.

We are in some doubt as to the most desirable form of rubber joint and it is thought that since Mr Hives has handled these joints so much on test he could give us his ideas on the subject. We have returned to the flat type of hose clip as we think it can more easily be made and used.

We would like Mr Hives to look at drawing No.Lec.592 and say whether we should have the beads on the ends of the pipes or smaller beads or no beads at all, and also whether he thinks the distance shown between the two pipes is what is required or whether this distance should be halved, or the joint be erected with the pipe ends touching.
