He/21d.1/AWR.11.11.31 contd. -3- Quarterly Complaints. Exhaust System. Noisy Exhaust. 111 of the complaints during the September quarter were due to exhaust blows. The following analysis indicates the chief causes of complaint :- (1) 20 HP. CARS. Total complaints 30. (24 at Cricklewood 5 at Works, 1 at Paris). There are two complaints on 20 HP. cars :- (a) burning away of, or distortion of the downtake pipe flange - 23 complaints. (b) Failure of joint washers between the exhaust manifold and cylinder head - 7 complaints. The remedies for these are :- (a) A strengthened flange and sleeve is fitted to the downtake pipe in accordance with Depot Sheet Hd.{Mr Hayward/Mr Huddy}201 - this is a definite cure. (b) copper and asbestos steel lined joint washers are fitted. these are superior to the previous brass and asbestos washer. (2) 20/25 HP. CARS. Total complaints 43 (35 at Cricklewood. 6 at the Works, 2 at Paris). There are three complaints on 20/25 HP. cars :- (a) burning away of, or distortion of the downtake pipe flange - 31 complaints. (b) Failure of joint washers between the exhaust manifold and cylinder head - 8 complaints (inaddition 9 of these cars dealt with in category(a) were fitted with new joint washers. (c) Silencer lagging loose, damaged by stones - 4 complaint The remedies for these are :- | ||
