X.87836 D/BP. from EFC. EFC2/T3.5.28. Exide batteries on Phantom Chassis. Answering your D/BP9/OG30.4.28, with reference to the Exide battery on Sir J.{Mr Johnson W.M.} Worsley-Taylor's car, in our own experience extending over many years we would say that we have never known of a cell spraying acid through the vent plug when the cell has not been overfilled. We consider that such result is probably due to the combination of the three things :- (1) Over-filling. (2) Overcharging at a high rate of charge (relatively slow speed). (3) Uneven road surface. We think that if the customer fills his battery to the correct level of 1/2" above the tops of the plates, and follows the Instruction Book in regard to overcharging, he will find that the trouble will disappear.
