Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} X2924 Hy{Tom Haldenby - Plant Engineer}2/R.4.9.33. MINUTES OF CONFERENCE HELD AT DERBY ON MONDAY SEPTEMBER 4TH 1933 TO DISCUSS BENTLEY AND OTHER MATTERS. PRESENT:- Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} C. PN.{Mr Northey} Bn.{W.O. Bentley / Mr Barrington} Ev.{Ivan Evernden - coachwork} Hn.{F. C. Honeyman - Retail orders} E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} By.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} Sft.{Mr Swift} Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} Hy.{Tom Haldenby - Plant Engineer} Minute No. 1. Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} enquired if anyone had any points of special importance and urgency with regard to the Bentley to bring up before discussing the question of the 15 cars, and if so, the special points would be taken first as the procedure with the 15 cars is fairly well settled. Crankshaft Period. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} said that an important point which requires consideration regarding the Bentley engine is the crankshaft period which is causing a good deal of anxiety and is rather creating a fear that serious damage may be done to engines by over-speeding on the lower gears. E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} agreed that this is a question of great importance and will have to be seriously dealt with at a later date. Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} said that this particular problem was not quite the kind of thing he had in mind when he asked for special points of importance, as this trouble is undoubtedly a matter which will have to be dealt with by the designers as soon as they possibly can but that for the time being the two-stud balance weights should carry us over and fulfil our immediate requirements on the early production chassis. The improved design which is required to overcome and remove the danger which exists from the crankshaft will have to be brought in as early as possible as a modification. Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} said that we cannot hold up production until such a design has been produced and experimentally tested. 2. Balancing Cam to eliminate gear rattle. Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} mentioned Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} has reported that he is having quite a measure of success with this device and the arrangement seems to be a promising scheme which can be applied to the first 15 chassis and the first batch of production chassis. After some discussion and explanation it was decided that By.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} should immediately instruct 15 sets of parts | ||
