HS{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/LID.{A. J. Lidsey} FROM DA{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}/EV.{Ivan Evernden - coachwork} ORIGINAL. DA{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}/EV{Ivan Evernden - coachwork}1/M12.10.32.

X293.

Messrs Park Ward & Co. told me over the telephone yesterday that HS{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/LID.{A. J. Lidsey} has collected the front wings of 3-Per.2., and given them instructions to correct the dummy dashboard of their jig to suit the chassis as erected.

I feel that I should at least have been told that he was collecting the wings, so that I could have made a point of inspecting them before signing for the payment of the coachwork.

In the matter of the dummy dash, which was made to .BY's detail drawing of the dashboard, I feel that before HS{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/LID.{A. J. Lidsey} gave instructions to Park Wards he should have reported to me the difficulties experienced in mounting the body of 2-Per.2., and I would have investigated the accuracy of the jig.

You will appreciate that we cannot have two people, isolated by 200 miles, each issuing separate instructions to coachbuilders. Without any official instructions, except those given by R.{Sir Henry Royce}, for 14 years I have had to accept the responsibility for experimental bodies. I do not mind having it, but if I have to accept it, you must agree that I am entitled to complete control, and to be kept fully informed of what has been done.

It might be an advantage now if you took over the design and supervision of such bodies, as I have plenty to do here.
