(3) There is no doubt that the brakes squeak very badly on his car. We know that because we have had the same trouble on our car fitted with cycle type wings. As an example of the eccentricities of this complaint, though we drove both cars round for about half an hour at Filton, we could reproduce the trouble on neither. We told Mr. Feddon that since cycle type wings were not a standard fitment we had not done any serious work to overcome the brake groans which they bring up. We pointed out that we should recommend that he changes back to the standard type wings. This he was very reluctant to do. In view of this we agreed to do a few tests on our own car with cycle type wings and let him know in a month's time whether we have found a cure. If not, then he will have the wings altered when the car goes in to have the coachwork attended to. To keep him going in comfort we showed him how to alleviate these brake groans temporarily by the application of powdered Graphite.
(4) Petrol Consumption. His only remark on this was that he thought the car's petrol consumption was remarkably good. Presumably therefore he withdraws his adverse comments.
(5) We think there is little doubt that when he has fitted the new type voltage regulator his trouble will disappear.
(6) We are afraid his petrol pump is rather noisy, and this can be changed when the car comes to the Works for the other jobs.
(7) Vibration and shaking of the lamps. We commented upon this previously. The solution of this is to fit the bumper bar. We recommend that this should be fitted.
(8) We presume Conduit Street are attending to this.
(9) This sounds like a thrust race noise but is not very bad. Feddon agreed that this did not worry him very much and could wait until the car comes to the Works for the other jobs.
(10) This was chiefly the valve gear. When the austenitic exhaust valves were fitted the tappet clearance was increased. We have since decided that this was not necessary, and reducing the clearance will improve matters.
