To RHC.{R. H. Coverley - Production Engineer} X340 Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Std.14/KW.8.7.36. Phantom III Radiator. Sales have objected to the frontal appearance of the Ph.III radiator when the shutters are open, on the grounds that it is spoilt by the yoke stays in front of the matrix. To avoid this, since we cannot dispense with some bracing between the yoke sides at the front, we wish to try the following alternative schemes. (1) Fix a sheet of coarse mesh wire netting painted or polished black between the shutters and the yoke stays - this could be held by set screws tapped into the yoke. A fixing of this sort would serve to enable the appearance to be judged. (2) Alter the yoke stays as per Sketch I attached. This consists of deleting the diagonal stays and substituting a V section centre stay member for the present strip. Centre stay should be painted dull black. We are putting 35-EX into the shop to-day and would like you to remove its radiator and fit these schemes to it. The appearance of each scheme can be judged on the bench without refitting the radiator to the car, and the radiator can be refitted eventually, using the best scheme. The new stay should be attached to the yoke by welding and the schemes should be tried in the above order; i.e., (1), (2). Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} would like this completed as soon as possible because if one of the schemes is successful, we wish to demonstrate it to Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} during his visit next week. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/C.S.Steadman. | ||
