With reference to your Hr3/TB/19.9.23, and copy of Messrs. Barker's letter of the 18th. inst., we have looked up the records of chassis 49-PE, and find that the present rear springs are of the thick leaf type.

Your remarks on R's ruling against fitting Hartford Shock Absorbers with thick leaf springs come to us somewhat as a surprise. We certainly have no knowledge of such a ruling, and we should be glad if you could let us have a copy of R's instructions in the matter.

The reply to your query in paragraph 3 is in the affirmative, and this is in accordance with the usual practice.

Regarding paragraph 4 of your memo, before we express a definite opinion on this, we should like to have a rather better description of the action of the car under the certain conditions referred to in paragraph 1 of Barker & Company's letter. To state that the back axle jars and jolts very considerably scarcely conveys the information necessary to form a useful opinion.

Chassis No. 1893.

We can supply springs to be sent out to Canada for Chassis 1893 which will be suitable for the Canadian roads, but it would be advisable for us to have full particulars of the weight of the body, maximum seating capacity, average number of passengers usually carried, and weight of luggage and if carried on a grid or elsewhere.

On receipt of this information we should be able to calculate what springs would be suitable for the car.
