BENTLEY (Contd). -3- Gx7/ES.15.7.35. 2) Textolite Gears:- It was decided to reduce the 30 sets to 12. 3) Broken stub axle:- W. reported all depots will have supplies by the 10th August. Further supplies will follow. 4). Big Bore Engine:- Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} reports that this ran for 22 hours when a piston cracked. This was put right and the run was continued until a broken oil pipe caused further fault when bearings were examined. A crack in the crank case also appeared. Expect to have it running again tomorrow (13th inst), and continuing test. A better engine should result. A car of this type should be fit for running 10,000 miles test in about one month. As to whether it can be made, S. says there is a risk of cracking at some of the studs but thought the risk was small and the scheme was probably justified. 5). Van Vooren Body:- This is now awaiting a chassis to go to France. 6). 6-B-LV:- This is now at the Coachbuilders waiting for a big bore unit and altered design of cross member. Hm.{Capt. W. Hallam - Head Repairs} was asked to give Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} details of differences when this chassis was completed. It is not expected to go to France before the end of August. 7). Park Ward body tests:- Wor{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager}; Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}; E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} etc., to be supplied with a copy of JLM's report on tests of Park Ward body with 'silentbloc' mountings. 8). Bentley Springing:- Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} raised the point of improving the springing now that we have hand controlled shock absorbers, by making it less hard for normal speeds. It is anticipated that something along these lines can be done when the anti-roll rod is introduced. The matter is being kept in view. Worst Features. 1). Performance: This is being taken care of by the big bore engine. 2). Front end movement: This is being taken care of by the fitting of a stabilising bumper. Other Bentley matters: Stabilising Bumper:- BY reports the cost at £4-10-0. | ||
