SPECTRECodename for Phantom III (Contd). -2- Other gear box faults are capable of simple treatment. H). Brakes:- Front insufficiently effective. This is a known fault and presumably, therefore, easily cured. I). Front Dampers:- Loss of oil is probably caused by the method of mounting. More information is wanted of this. Experts have gone over to France to investigate. J). Rear Axle Shudders:- This requires further expert investigation. K). Brake shudders:- Reported O.K. L). Springs hitting Buffers:- Modification has been designed to cure this. M). Steering Joggles noticeable between 45 and 60 m.p.h:- This matter is receiving attention and other modifications are being tried. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} said another car is being prepared to go to France to carry on tests. Petrol Tanks:- This is now to be 32 gallons plus 2 gallons reserve - total 34. Trials Cars:- S. asked for these two cars to be complete by the end of September so that one can go to Paris for the Exhibition opening 3rd October, and the other to be available when the announcement to the Public is made about the end of that month (Sept). Show Cars:- It is understood that these need not be 100% structurally complete so long as externally and under the bonnet they look complete. Material for Production:- Wcr. said this would be needed, in the ordinary course of events, by the middle of August, but this was deferred for the time being until further experience is gained on road. Hydraulic Jacks:- W. are investigating and developing the engine operated type as being superior to the hand operated type. In the meantime the first chassis will be equipped with D.B. screw jacks as on Phantom. BENTLEY:- 1). Stellited Valves:- The Works have been instructed regarding these. | ||
