To DA.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} from Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} X540 Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}3/LG6.4.25. S E C R E T. 'INDIA' FRONT SPRINGS. We feel it is going to be very difficult to get a 20 HP. 'India' chassis to complete 10,000 miles without front spring failures. The present 20 HP. has never completed 5,000 miles in France without spring failures. Our experience has not shewn that we are getting a very considerable increase in life by increasing the length, for instance, the 45" springs did not have as long a life as the 43 1/2" springs. we agree that this was most probably due to various other proportions of the springs being different. It shows that the fact of increasing the length only will not necessarily increase the life. We suggest that if you have got any ideas of how to increase the life of front springs for 'India', we should immediately get some of these springs made incorporating them.
