X.5410 To HS.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} from DA.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} S E C R E T. DA{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}4/M3.4.25. I N D I A.{Mr Adams} FRONT SPRINGS. X.5410 Referring to the bumping test on the 20 HP. chassis, and the failure of the new Firth front springs, these of course are the same length and deflection as the standard 20 HP. According to the calculations, which are a good general guide, the new 38" springs for India will have a very much longer life than these standard 20 HP. provided that they are manufactured by Firths on the same printiples. We therefore conclude that there is nothing that we should do with India front springs for the moment, until weget some bumping results from you. The stresses in the India front springs are lower than those in the Series 'V' front springs which have just gone through the 10,000 miles test. | ||
