X5410 By.from Wd.{Mr Wood/Mr Whitehead} c.to Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} e.to oo/Dp Wd{Mr Wood/Mr Whitehead}10/NJ27.4.25. 20 HP.Chassis - India. Front Springs. I confirm mine Wd{Mr Wood/Mr Whitehead}2/NJ2.4.25. We are now in receipt of a letter from Messrs.Thos. Firth & Sons Ltd. dated 24th inst. with reference to the 5 broken test springs recently returned to them off our bumping rig (see By/HM{Capt. W. Hallam - Head Repairs}11/W30.3.25 and Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/RB{R. Bowen}/LG23.3.25). They state they have now thoroughly examined the broken springs, but before submitting their report they would very much like to have details as to how these springs are fixed to the axle and, if possible, would like to have a sketch of this giving dimensions of the packing plate used. They state they ask for this as the main blades of all the 5 plates fractured in exactly the same place, namely, at the end of our packing plate, and although they (Firths) think they can account for this, they are anxious to see whether the information asked for above has any effect on the matter. Firths suggest that upon completion of their report, their Mr.Stansfield and Mr.Mark Firth should visit us at Derby, as Mr.Stansfield has one or two proposals to make which he thinks may overcome these difficulties in future designs. If you will be good enough to furnish to me the information asked for by Firths, I will attend to the forwarding of same. Wd.{Mr Wood/Mr Whitehead} | ||
