Dear Sirs,

Your reference ....... Hs {Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} /Wst.2/AD

In reply to your letter of the 26th. we would inform you that the valve we employ for our Peak Voltage measurement is a Mullard VU.50. We are not quite sure whether this valve is obtainable at the present time, but doubtless you will be able to get an equivalent type.

Generally, we are not ourselves, in favour of calibrated spark gaps for accurate work. Even the ionised type shew a very considerable variation in voltage between individual sparks, while the unionised type are, of course, useless, owing to their high impulse ratio.

Yours faithfully,
JOSEPH LUCAS LIMITED.
ELECTRICAL DEPARTMENT.
